YOUNG HUMPBACK WHALE SPOTTED OFF PORT STEPHENS

A young humpback whale has wowed those lucky enough to catch a glimpse, during a brief visit to Port Stephens.

Popping up near the Nelson Bay breakwater, Soldiers Point and Salamander Bay, the juvenile is a sure sign the northern migration is underway.

Around 37,000 whales are expected to pass by the Hunter over the coming months.

Whale watching tours are restarting under new social distancing guidelines.
