CENTURY OLD WAR MEMORIAL DESTROYED IN CRASH
A century-old war memorial in the heart of Dorrigo has been destroyed in a car crash overnight.
A male driver ploughed into the monument shortly before 7.30pm, and the lone soldier made of white stone ended up on the roof of his Ford Focus.
The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and underwent mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
The tight-knit community of Dorrigo has been left devastated by the crash, with many locals coming out to inspect the damage last night and this morning.
The sacred monument was erected in 1921, standing tall in the middle of a roundabout on the town’s main street.
It also included honour roll plaques, with the names of local World War II veterans – added during the 1940s.
