FLIGHT CENTRE SCRAPS $300 CANCELLATION FEE

Australia’s consumer watchdog has welcomed a decision from Flight Centre to stop charging customers for cancelling flights during the coronavirus pandemic.
Flight Centre will refund thousands of customers who where charged $300 per person from March 13 to get a refund for a cancelled international flight or $50 for a domestic flight.

It means fees charged by Aunt Betty, Travel Associates, Student Universe, Universal Traveller and Jetescape Travel (trading as Byojet Travel) will also be cancelled, as they come under the Flight Centre banner.

The decision comes in response to weeks of pressure from customers and regulators.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it had been prepared to take Flight Centre to court, but that this decision would provide faster relief for customers.
“This is a very welcome move made by Flight Centre for thousands of customers impacted by COVID-19 travel cancellations,” ACCC Chair Rod Sims said.
