WATER RESTRICTIONS LIFTED AT PORT MACQUARIE
Water restrictions have been lifted at Port Macquarie, after more than a year.
Council says the downgrade from Level 2 Restrictions to general water conservation measures is thanks to more than 700 millimetres of rain since February, and significant reductions in water use throughout the region.
Total water storage for the area is now at 73 per cent, after ideal conditions allowed water to be pumped from the Hastings River to storage dams.
Council’s Director of Infrastructure Dan Bylsma has praised the community’s efforts.
“Between March and April, we continued to see reductions in total water demand, of around 9 per cent. It means people continue to practice water conservation around their homes and businesses.”
People are being encouraged to continue the conservation efforts, as Council focuses on future management options like improving the Wauchope Water Treatment Plant, upgrading filtration and looking at plans for a desalination plant.
