MAN ASSAULTS POLICE OFFICER
A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a police officer at Lake Macquarie yesterday.
Police attended a caravan park at Freemans Waterhole just after 10pm last night, in relation to a stolen caravan.
During inquiries, the 31 year old, unprovoked, allegedly ran directly at an officer, before punching and kicking him.
Police used a taser on the man, and he was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.
The man was later given several charges including for an outstanding warrant, assault, and possessing a prescribed restricted substance.
He appeared in Newcastle Local Court today, and will appear at Wyong Local Court on May 13.
