ADF TO JOIN POLICE MONITORING SHIPPING AT PORT OF NEWCASTLE

The NSW Police Force will be joined by the Australian Defence Force in Newcastle later this week to assist in quarantine compliance at the port during the coronavirus outbreak.
The operation is part of an arrangement with the Australian Border Force to monitor the management of shipping at selected ports across the state, including the ports of Newcastle, Kembla, Botany and White Bay.
ADF personnel will be stationed at the ports to oversee compliance under the Public Health (COVID-19 Maritime Quarantine) Order 2020.
They are there only in a supporting role and are not authorised as law enforcement officers.
The police operation began at Port Botany and Port Kembla on Tuesday, and is due to commence at the Port of Newcastle this week.
