COVID-19 TESTING BLITZ IN EAST LAKE MACQUARIE

East Lake Macquarie locals with a cold or respiratory like symptoms are being urged to be tested for COVID-19, as Hunter New England Health expands testing in the region.

Locals living in the Valentine, Belmont, Mount Hutton, Windale and Croudace Bay regions who are experiencing flu-like symptoms can now be tested for coronavirus.

It comes after the region recorded three positive coronavirus tests without a known source of infection.

Public Health Physician, Dr David Durrheim, says the screening blitz will give health authorities the best chance to identify a potential cluster.

“We’ve identified some positive cases of COVID-19 in East Lake Macquarie where we don’t know the source of infection.”

“Extensive contact tracing and quarantining is vital, and identifying community transmission early is our best chance of slowing the spread.”

“If you live in the Valentine, Belmont, Mt Hutton, Windale or Croudace Bay areas and you have experienced an onset of respiratory symptoms… we want to hear from you,” Dr Durrheim said.

“Likewise if you’ve recently travelled internationally or on a cruise ship, or been in touh with a person confirmed to have COVID-19, please call one of the clinics.”

Belmont Hospital is operating a drive through testing clinic between 8am-4pm.

You must call ahead before being tested.

Contact the clinic on 4923 2211.
