NEW CHANGES RENTERS CAN EXPECT IN THE HUNTER

Renters across the Hunter can expect to see a number of changes, with new tenancy laws about to take effect.
Landlords will need to ensure smoke alarms are in working order, and that properties meet better living standards.
Some Hunter real estate agents say the reforms will mostly benefit those leasing homes.
“The government are obviously going to try and increase long-term leases with tenants, and the encouragement is really there for tennants to sign the long-term leases, but on the flip-side of it, they’re able to break their lease really easily.” – Michelle McLean, Leah Jay.
The changes begin on Monday.
