Hunter boat users have largely been given the thumbs up, after a statewide safety blitz.
Operation Take Care Be Aware aimed to reduce serious incidents on our waterways.
This financial year, there’s been 18 deaths across New South Wales – that’s double the previous period.
“It is higher than expected. There’s no real core trend that’s been established at this stage… but with all cases of boating incidents, they are preventable, by just taking the correct steps before you do go boating.”
Maritime officers in the Hunter conducted 260 inspections over the weekend, handing out 10 penalty notices.
