CHANGES AT CHURCH AS THE CORONAVIRUS SPREADS

As the coronavirus continues to spread, Catholics across Northern New South Wales will notice changes at their local church.

The Diocese of Lismore has made the decision to remove holy water in all parishes from the Tweed to Port Macquarie.

Bishop Gregory Homeming OCD says it’s one of a number of measures being implemented to protect congregations.

“To maximise the safety of people that come into our churches and minimise the possibility of transmission of disease,” Homeming says.

The Bishop has also confirmed the chalice will not be shared and the traditional handshake, known as the ‘sign of peace,’ is banned for the foreseeable future.
