The search for two missing fishermen is being concentrated on an area between Port Stephens and Seal Rocks today after lifejackets, a fuel tank and other items were washed up at Birubu Point late yesterday.
The discovery indicates the drift pattern for searchers but also that the men’s runabout most likely capsized or sank.
Damion Diamond from the Central Coast and Richard Choi from Sydney haven’t been seen since setting out from Norah Head on Sunday.
Weather conditions deteriorated rapidly into a gale and a text message was sent from one of the men’s phones saying they’d run out of fuel.
An intensive air and sea search is likely to be scaled back later today.
