Blue-green algae has been found in Chaffey Dam, with Tamworth Council issuing a ‘Red Alert’.
The algae is toxic to humans and animals, and boiling the water does NOT make it safe to drink.
People should not enter the dam and water must be processed by the treatment plant before being consumed.
The removal of animals from the dam’s edge is also advised.
