NEWCASTLE EAST PARENTS CONCERNED OVER ASBESTOS FINDING

Parents have questioned the planning behind upgrades to Newcastle East Public School, following the discovery of potentially deadly asbestos in a building onsite on Wednesday.

They have since been told all contaminated property has been removed.

“We want to know what the plans are going forward, we’ve also asked for a public release of the hazard report, because we know it’s there, and we want it guaranteed that we will see exactly what’s gone on.” – Simmone Pengelly, Newcastle East Public School parent.

“We don’t know whether people will have to put their names or their childrens’ names on the Dust Diseases Board, we have no idea.” – Tim Crakanthorp, Member for Newcastle.

The Department of Education says the school is safe.
