FIVE PEOPLE ARRESTED AFTER SERIES OF POLICE PURSUITS ON NORTH COAST

Five people have been arrested following a series of police pursuits on the Pacific Highway between Grafton and Ballina.

Just before 7 o’clock this morning near Ulmarra, police noticed an allegedly stolen car being driven north on the Pacific Highway, doing speeds up to 180 kilometres an hour.

Two separate pursuits however both were terminated due to safety concerns.

Officers used road spikes to try and stop the group, but their attempts were unsuccessful.

After crashing the car near Broadwater, one woman was arrested while four other occupants escaped.

They allegedly stole another car and continued north to Ballina, where police say they lost control and flipped the car just after 8 o’clock this morning.

They then fled into nearby bushland.

A perimeter was established and officers from the Richmond Police District, Highway Patrol and the dog squad searched for the group.

Four people – one woman and three men – were arrested a short time later.

They’re now assisting with inquiries at Ballina Police Station.

Charges are yet to be laid.
