MAN CHARGED WITH LIGHTING CESSNOCK FIRES
A man’s been charged with deliberately lighting two fires in the Hunter yesterday.
Police were responding to a bushfire near Greta Street at Aberdare when they noticed a man walk out of bushland covered in soot just after 11pm.
He was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station, before being taken to hospital for assessment.
He was later conveyed to Maitland Police Station and charged with two counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread.
It’s alleged he deliberately lit two fires; one just after 3pm near Cessnock Road, Neath, and the one at Greta Street at around 11pm.
He’s due to appear at Cessnock Local Court next month.
