WANTED MID NORTH COAST MAN CAUGHT ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO FLEE AUSTRALIA

A Nambucca Heads man has been extradited from the Northern Territory after being arrested off the coast of Darwin, allegedly attempting to leave Australia.

The 52-year-old man was intercepted by Australian Border Force officers around 110 nautical miles north-north-east of Darwin last Tuesday.

He was wanted on an outstanding NSW warrant after breaching an Intensive Correction Order for domestic related assault offences, fraud offences and breach of an order.

ABF officers detained the man out at sea, and he was taken into custody, before appearing at the Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was escorted by detectives on a flight to Sydney yesterday, and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

The man is now back in the custody of Corrective Services NSW.
