BENJAMIN BATTERHAM AWARDED COSTS

Sydney’s Supreme Court has ruled Newcastle man, Benjamin Batterham, was wrongly prosecuted over the death of Ricky Slater, awarding him costs.
Batterham carried out a citizens arrest after Slater broke into his home in 2016, putting him in a choke hold.
Slater later died after suffering a series of cardiac arrests.
Batterham was found not guilty of his murder or manslaughter last month, and now a judge has found he should never have been prosecuted.
His lawyers have indicated his legal costs could exceed $1 million.
