TAMWORTH COUNCIL TO CONDUCT EFFLUENT TRIAL IN PEEL RIVER

Tamworth Regional Council will conduct a trial over the weekend to see if treated effluent could assist struggling high security water entitlement holders.

With the Peel River being diverted to Dungowan Dam, several irrigators downstream are in dire need of water.

60 millilitres of effluent will be released from holding ponds at the Westdale Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“The Peel River has basically gone dry. The high security water users downstream of Tamworth have a need for water and Council are trying to assist by providing effluent, or treated waste water, into the river for their needs.”

The plan has been given the green light from the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority.
