P-PLATER CAUGHT STREET RACING AT BANORA POINT
A 19-year-old man has booked himself a court date after he was allegedly caught street racing on the state’s far north coast.
Officers in an unmarked patrol car spotted a Volkswagen Golf GTI and a Holden Cruz travelling at high speed on the Pacific Highway at Banora Point on Sunday evening, with police to allege the two cars were involved in a street race, reaching speeds up to 200km/h.
The Volkswagen was eventually stopped on an off ramp at Tweed Heads, with the P-plater charged with a string of offences.
His license was also suspended, while the vehicle’s registration was cancelled.
Police are still working to track down the second driver.
