Last night’s downpour has helped firefighters still battling to control the Moonbi fire, north of Tamworth.
While the rain wasn’t enough to extinguish the blaze, the cooler weather has made for favourable firefighting conditions.
Crews today worked to strengthen containment lines ahead of warmer weather later this week.
The fire has so far burnt through more than 6,000 hectares of bush.
