NEW ENGLAND HIGHWAY REOPENED AS FIRIES GAIN CONTROL OF MOONBI FIRE

Firefighters are steadily gaining control of a large bushfire burning at Moonbi, north of Tamworth.
The blaze, which broke out on Tuesday morning, has burnt through approximately 5,000 hectares.
There are now only a few sections that have not been effectively contained.
All lanes of the New England Highway have been reopened to traffic between Moonbi and Bendemeer.
Despite the reduced threat level, residents are still being urged to remain updated via the Fires Near Me App.
There has been no significant property loss, or any reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.
