PORT MACQUARIE FIRE REACHES EMERGENCY LEVEL

CRESTWOOD DRIVE FIRE

A Watch and Act warning remains in place for an out of control bushfire burning at Lake Cathie near Port Macquarie.

Residents in Lake Cathie, Long Point or Bonny Hills should seek shelter as the fire front passes, while locals should also be alert for burning embers.

Kew, Kendall, Herons Creek and Bob’s Creek residents should continue to monitor conditions.

The blaze was upgraded to emergency late on Tuesday morning, after it breached containment lines under strong northerly winds.

Numerous spot fires, including to the west of Lake Cathie village and in the area of Lake Innes Nature Reserve are causing further concerns for firefighters.

Aircraft are working to support ground crews to slow the spread of the fire and protect homes.

A section of Ocean Drive has been closed, with drivers encouraged to take alternative routes.
