EMERGENCY WARNING FOR BUSHFIRE AT BACKWATER

An emergency warning remains in place for a bushfire burning north of Armidale.

The blaze is burning in the vicinity of Pinkett Road at Backwater and is being fanned towards homes by north westerly winds.

Residents along Pinkett Road should seek shelter as the fire front passes, with aircraft working to assist ground crews to contain the fire.

A ‘Watch & Act’ warning is also in place near Tuncurry on the Mid North Coast, where flames have crossed the Coolongoolook River.

Strong easterly winds are pushing embers from the fire towards Wallingat, Shallow Bay and Coomba Park.
