FIRE COMES PRECARIUSLY CLOSE TO HOMES AT CASINO
Firefighters at Casino in the state’s Northern Rivers were kept busy overnight, after a blaze took hold in bushland inside the railway corridor.
Residents on Hotham Street were forced to use buckets to hold the flames at bay, as Fire & Rescue, RFS and the Forestry Corporation worked to contain the fire.
Despite the gusty conditions, crews were able to bring the blaze under control.
Just a few hours later, crews were again called to the site, with several piles of discarded railway sleepers found to be fully engulfed.
It comes as the state prepares for another day of dangerous bushfire conditions, with high temperatures and strong winds forecast.
A total fire ban is in place for the Greater Hunter, with the fire danger rating listed at severe.
