MAN ARRESTED AFTER EIGHT-HOUR SEIGE AT TAREE

A 42-year-old man has been charged after an alleged eight-hour siege at Taree on the Mid North Coast overnight.

Officers say they attended a home on Coulston Street to speak with a man in relation to an AVO at around 8 o’clock on Sunday evening, when they were allegedly threatened with an axe.

Police negotiators were called in to resolve the situation, but the man remained bailed up inside the home for around eight-hours.

The stand-off came to an abrupt end when specialist officers entered the home at around 4am.

The 42-year-old was arrested without incident, and taken taken to Forster Police Station.

He’s since been charged with a string of offences including using a weapon to avoid apprehension.
