EARLY MORNING ARREST AT MEREWETHER RESULTS IN THEFT CHARGES

A 47-year-old man who was arrested at Merewether in the early hours of the morning has been charged with a number of theft related offences.

Spotted by officers pushing a bicycle along Morgan Street at around 1 o’clock on Monday morning, a search of the Floraville man allegedly found two iPhones, along with prescription medication, spark plugs and threaded nuts.

Police will allege the spark plugs and nuts had been used to break into a number of cars in the beachside suburb, while the bicycle and phones are believed to have been stolen.

The man, who is currently serving a 10-month Intensive Correction Order was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged.
