WARNINGS ISSUED FOR BUSHFIRES NEAR ARMIDALE
Firefighters are bracing for an afternoon of strong winds, with a number of blazes across the state still causing concern for authorities.
A total fire ban has been issued for the New England, Northern Slopes and North Western regions, with westerly winds and low humidity expected.
Crews have been focusing on a fire burning near the Waterfall Way at Wollomombi, east of Armidale, with the blaze currently at ‘Watch & Act’ level.
Water bombing aircraft were called in late on Friday after flames came perilously close to a number of remote properties.
The blaze has already scorched more than 60 hectares of bushland and is listed as ‘Being Controlled’ by the RFS.
Additional containment lines are being developed, with local residents reminded the conditions are conducive to spot fire activity.
