COUNCIL BEGINS WORK TO FLOOD-PROOF WALLSEND

After a decade of discussion, work has finally begun on replacing Wallsend’s Tyrrell Street Bridge.
Newcastle Council started construction on a stormwater drain on Monday, which will include demolishing the bridge.
It will be replaced with a higher and longer span, and improved drainage to help reduce the chance of flooding.
It’s the first of three bridges being replaced.
Construction is expected to be finished by the middle of next year.
