MAN ON ROOF IN MAYFIELD TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Police have taken a man into custody, after negotiating him down from a roof in Mayfield.

The siege on Maitland Road begun just after 12:30am on Friday, when a 25-year-old climbed onto the roof of a unit and refused to come down.

NSW Police Rescue, the police dog unit, paramedics and negotiators worked for more than 8 hours to get him down.

Police believe he was under the influence of drugs.

Investigations are continuing.
