There was heavy smoke over Maitland yesterday afternoon, as a fast-moving grassfire scorched 10 hectares at Gillieston Heights.
Crews arrived at around 5pm to find the fire burning less than 300 hundred metres from the rail line.
They had it under control within just 45 minutes, and prevented it from spreading to nearby homes.
It’s not being treated as suspicious.
