GIRL IMPROVING IN HOSPITAL

A 13-year-old girl is this evening expected to be brought out of an induced coma after she and her mother were hit by a van at Charlestown at 8:30 this morning.
Police say the pair crossed the Pacific Highway near Ridley Street as traffic queued, and were hit close to the footpath by an Australia Post van.
The lane they were in is a clearway until 9am.
The teenager was taken to hospital suffering critical head injuries, while her mother escaped with bruising.
