Police have confirmed the driver of a car which crashed on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Freemans Waterhole, west of Lake Macquarie, has died.
It’s understood the vehicle left the road and rolled, before bursting into flames at around 7:30 on Saturday evening.
The driver, who was the only person in the car, died at the scene.
Northbound lanes of the motorway remain closed as a result of the crash, with those heading towards Newcastle being diverted onto Freemans Drive.
The road is expected to remain closed for some time.
