TEENAGER CHARGED OVER FIERY PURSUIT AT TWEED HEADS
An unlicensed teenage driver has been charged over a pursuit near Tweed Heads, which ended with two vehicles – including a police patrol car – going up in flames.
The 17-year-old boy was one of three people arrested yesterday afternoon.
Police began pursuing a sedan along the M1 shortly before 2pm.
Road spikes were deployed at the Duranbah Tunnel near Chinderah and the car’s tyres were deflated.
But when the car and a police patrol vehicle stopped on the road shoulder, the grass underneath them caught fire – destroying them both.
The boy’s facing a Children’s Court on charges including driving unlicensed and driving dangerously.
His passengers were released without charge.
