There are extensive delays along the M1 Motorway at Killingworth this morning, with a bushfire burning dangerously close to the road.
Both lanes have now been closed and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Residents are being told to enact their bushfire survival plan.
There’s also heavy smoke, affecting visibility.
Firefighters are backburning to contain the blaze and it’s listed as ‘being controlled.’
