NURSING HOME RESIDENT CRITICAL WITH MENINGOCOCCAL

A Hunter nursing home resident has been diagnosed with meningococcal disease and is tonight in a critical condition in hospital.
Anglican Care, which runs the Jesmond Grove facility, says the risk of infection to other residents and staff is low.
It’s unclear when or where the resident was exposed to the illness.
Symptoms include a fever, neck stiffness, an aversion to bright lights, and a distinctive purple rash.
