Cessnock Jail’s $97-million maximum security wing has received its first inmates.
20 prisoners were transported to the 250 bed facility today,it was meant to open last July.
It’s believed a lack of prison guards contributed to the delay.
The wing will push the capacity of the jail to just over 800 inmates.
It will be officially opened on Tuesday.
