PATHWAY SET TO CONNECT KING AND HUNTER STREETS
Demolition work on three shopfronts is due to begin on Monday, to make way for a pathway connecting King and Hunter Streets.
Council purchased the buildings in 2017, as part of Newcastle’s west-end upgrade plan.
“It will then be able to open up that opportunity to walk and cycle between King Street and Hunter Street, along the edge of cottage creek. In the future, we’ll be looking at opening up all the way from Hunter Street right through to Honeysuckle foreshore,” said Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes.
Verve apartments developer Miller Property has already begun work on the pedestrian link, which should open in August.
