NEW SPECIES OF PLANT FOUND ON NEW HIGHWAY BYPASS ROUTE

Scientists are examining two ancient species of plants thought to be entirely new to science.

The patch of land where the plants were found, in Coffs Harbour, is set to be bulldozed to make way for the new highway bypass.

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh says the finding doesn’t change the timeline of the project and precautions will be taken to ensure the plants are safely relocated.

75 per cent of properties along the bypass route have been acquired, and earthworks continue.
