NEW BASE FOR NEWCASTLE’S MARINE RESCUE UNIT

The state government has thrown a lifeline to Newcastle’s Marine Rescue unit, which will get a new purpose-built base at Stockton.
The unit was forced out of its long-time home on Shepherds Hill following storm damage in 2015.
For now, it has its rescue boat and some space at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, but it should have a permanent base on the Stockton foreshore within two years.
