EPA DISCOVERS CHEMICAL LEAKS AT MAYFIELD PLANT

A Mayfield chemical plant has been issued a pollution prevention notice after chemical leaks were discovered by the EPA.
Several unlocked and unrestrained tank hatches were found, following community complaints of odours in the area.
The notice requires Koppers Chemical Plant to assess controls on storage tanks to ensure they are installed and operating correctly.
The discovery also follows an incident earlier this year, where more than a dozen workers were treated by paramedics for exposure to chemical gases.
