DOMESTIC INCIDENT LEAVES MAN AND POLICE OFFICER IN HOSPITAL
A step-father has managed to stave off an attack on his step-daughter, after a 29-year-old man threatened the pair at her Singleton home on Tuesday night.
When the man approached the Andrews Street home, just after 9pm, the step-father asked him to leave, while the woman quickly hid inside and called Triple Zero.
The man then allegedly drove into the step-father and collided with a telegraph pole.
Armed with the baseball bat, he then ran into the house, intimidating the woman.
He was arrested nearby a short time later, but tried to escape custody and assaulted a sergeant.
The 51-year-old step-father suffered a compound fracture and was airlifted to hospital. The injured police officer was also admitted to hospital, with concussion and a grazed eye.
The 29-year-old man was charged with break and entering, attempt to escape custody and numerous assault charges.
He’ll appear in Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday.
