ROCKY HILL COAL MINE PROPOSAL SCRAPPED
Gloucester residents are celebrating, after mining company Gloucester Resources announced it would not challenge a landmark court decision on its Rocky Hill coal mine.
The mine was knocked back in the Land and Environment Court in February – partly due to concerns over greenhouse gas emissions.
Yesterday, the company said it would not be lodging a Supreme Court appeal.
Advocacy group, Groundswell Gloucester, says it’s thrilled with the result – and will be petitioning the state government to quash coal licences in the area.
