16-YEAR-OLD DRIVER CRASHES INTO TREE IN NEWCASTLE
A 16-year-old driver is under guard at hospital after crashing into a tree at Shortland.
Police were patrolling Sandgate Road, shortly after midnight on Thursday, when they noticed a Toyota Camry allegedly travelling at high speed.
Officers put their lights on to stop the driver, and then saw the car hit a kerb and crash into a nearby tree.
The young driver was checked by paramedics at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.
He remains there under police guard in a stable condition.
