They date back to 1915 and now, a priceless collection of letters from a World War One soldier from Newcastle are on display.
”Ben and His Mates’ includes a number of letters from Lieutenant Ben Champion, written to his late wife – from Gallipoli.
“A lot of diaries only talked about themselves and where they were, but he actually talked about so many soldiers and so in the book we’ve got over 300 soldiers that he’s mentioned, so now we can commemorate them in the index in the back.” – Penny Ferguson, Ben Champion’s Granddaughter.
It’s on display at the Newcastle Regional Library.
