MILITARY TREASURE HUNTERS DIG IN NEWCASTLE

High tech treasure hunters took over part of Islington Park this afternoon, in the hope of unearthing a long-lost part of Newcastle’s military history.
A ground penetrating radar was deployed to look for Fort Scratchley’s two original guns, which are rumoured to have been buried at the site of the old bowling club.
Images from the radar will be inspected, in the hope of de-bunking the myth once and for all.
The two 9-inch Rifled Muzzle Loader guns stood guard outside the fort between 1882 and 1895, before they were decommissioned and eventually lost.
