MEDICAL STUDENT PROTEST OVER DETENTION OF REFUGEES

Coffs Harbour medical students staged a protest today, Calling for an end to off-shore detention of refugees and asylum seekers.

The young medicos say the physical and mental health of detainees is a major concern.

We are really hoping to send a message to the public that detention harms their health and there’s no place for any human being to be kept in let alone refugees and asylum seekers who are very vulnerable due to all the trauma and conflict they have been through.

The students used today’s protest to highlight the issue ahead of the federal election, where border security is a hotly contested topic.
