LOCAL SURFERS PROTEST AGAINST SEISMIC TESTING

Local board riders turned out in their hundreds at Nobby’s Beach this afternoon to protest against seismic testing off the Great Australian Bight and the East Coast.
The surfers paddled out for a peaceful vigil to voice their concerns about further planned testing.
“Right now in Newcastle there’s a live seismic testing operation which is about to begin within a matter of weeks potentially so it’s never been more important for people to get the word out and understand that seismic testing, even before the drilling starts poses enormous threat to the marine life and the coast we love so much”, said Greens candidate John MacKenzie.
Last year, seismic testing was conducted 22 kilometres off Swansea for three days.
