HUGHES FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTES CANCER RESEARCH GRANTS

Five researchers, including a University of Newcastle academic, will share in almost three quarters of a million dollars, raised by the Mark Hughes Foundation in the fight against brain cancer.
The grants were awarded at Sydney’s Kolling Institute, earlier today.
“We think that the answers to brain cancer could come from something just a little left field – just a little outside the square.”
HMRI Professor Hubert Hondermarck was given almost $150,000 to explore the role of neurons in prostate, breast and thyroid cancers, and transfer that knowledge to glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.
