COUNCIL TO DO LAND SWAP DEAL WITH RTA

Newcastle Council is set to do a land swap with the RTA to enable the future redevelopment of the Newcastle Region Art Gallery.
The RTA owns a section of land next to the gallery, and will release it in exchange for council land at Shortland and New Lambton, required for roadwork.
Meanwhile campaigners say yesterday’s wild wind provided proof that the Laman Street figs are safe, and should not be cut down.
The figs didn’t cause any problems despite the gusty conditions, while other trees around the region were blown down.
