Police have wrapped up a search in the Newcastle suburb of Kotara, following reports a man was seen walking around with a knife and possibly a hand gun.
Police say witnesses reported seeing a shirtless man brandishing a knife in the vicinty of Joslin street and Springfield Avenue at around 4pm.
They say an altercation took place between two men, who are known to each other, before one of the men fled.
A full scale search of the area was conducted with the police dog squad and Polair assisting.
Locals have taken to social media saying it’s too close to home, and a scary situation.
The man is believed to be aged in his 20s, with short brown hair and a cross tattooed on his back.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
